You've applied to numerous colleges, now how are you going to finance your education? Get your student loan from your credit union. Members' Advantage Credit Union offers Federal Family Educational Loans. We will guide you through the process of completing a FAFSA (Federal Application for Student Financial Aid), getting an award letter, and completing your MPN (Master Promissory Note) for the three types of student loans available through this government-backed program.

Loans for students:

  • Subsidized Federal Stafford loans are available to both dependent and independent undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. It is called a subsidized loan because the government pays the interest on the loan while the student's status is "in school", "grace", or "deferment".
  • Unsubsidized Federal Stafford loans are available to both dependent and independent undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. The government does not pay interest on the loan at any time. The student is solely responsible for the interest, but can request to have interest payments deferred and allowed to accrue. Any unpaid accrued interest outstanding at the time the borrower enters repayment will be capitalized. In certain cases, student qualify for both subsidized and unsubsidized Federal Stafford loans.

Loans for parents:

  • Federal PLUS (Parental Loan for Undergraduate Students) are available to parents or stepparents of dependent undergraduate students. These loans are not based on financial need. Parents or stepparents simply see a participating lender, like Members' Advantage Credit Union, to apply. (Students must go through the FAFSA process before their parent can receive this loan; parents' information is requested on the students' FAFSA.)
